The complete C64 music collection Jens-Christian Huus

Tunes in NewPlayer v10 - v14, around 1990.

Some of these tunes show that I managed to grow since players v06 - v09. Here I
actually start to like some of the tunes today! ;) Vibrants became more famous
and I was constantly in top of the diskmagazine charts. Not because I was the
best (because I most certainly wasn't!), but because I was the most popular
musician in the scene. However, my biggest dream of them all was to hit the
games just like Maniacs of Noise. This never really happened - I made some
music for private people, but soon learned from Johannes Bjerregaard that this
was a very bad idea; most of those games were never released. My biggest
disappointment of my C64 life was the "Orcus" music, I put a lot of work into
this and expected it to be my breakthrough - yet, the guy in England who
ordered the music lost all interest in the game as time went by.

ACCIDENT.DAT Accident

Cooperation between Morten Sigaard Kristensen and I. The bass
was taken from a pophit and I made the rest on top of it.
Morten Sigaard Kristensen was previously known on the C64
as "O'Neill" of "Crest". Today he uses his initials "MSK" and
produces quite good music in FastTracker II. Go look for them
on your favourite BBS now! :)

ALIENSNG.DAT Aliensong

An old song which was packed and released much later. I like
the weird alien talking in the beginning of the song. These
sounds make use of programmed filtering, something that is
really missing in SidPlay at the time of writing this.

AOUW!.DAT Aouw!

Another weird ring modulation effect, here used to produce the
strange "Aouw!" sounds before commencing the tune.

BATMAN.DAT Batman (long version)

One of the most popular tunes I ever made. After the slow
start the real tune beings at 01:38 - this part was later
extracted to form a shorter version. The tune itself was also
the result of a deeper level of planning than I used to with
my tunes at that time; there are parts of the song where you
can imagine a choir singing "Batman". I remember I was not
very satisfied with the Prince tune on the film which was
one of the reasons why I did my own version of it.

BLIZZARD.DAT Blizzard

Short introtune. Notice the use of waveform $21 in the bass.
Normally waveform $41 was used in basslines.

CRAPTUNE.DAT Craptune

Made while showing how to use the editor.

DUCHESSE.DAT Duchesse

FOREVER.DAT Forever Cry

Made almost entirely by myself with a few ideas thrown in by
one of my friends who called himself "The Saint".

GEORGE_C.DAT George Carl

A long tune containing three completely different parts. The
slow introduction changes at 01:19 to a part which was played
by the clown George Carl during his shows. Here I tried to
emulate a real mouth organ using ring modulation. At 01:58
the tune changes into a slow but very atmospheric part.

GLIDER_P.DAT Glider Pilot

This was a conversion from an old C64 game of the same name.
The composition was very nice but used horribly raw sounds. I
converted the tune and it was used in the demo that won the
C64 demo competition at the Randers copy-party.

HACKTRIK.DAT Hacktrick

My friend, "The Saint", hummed the bassline and I made all
                the rest.

HARD_ON.DAT Hard On

The first song done in a player featuring "Hard restart" - so
as you see, the name is not as naughty as you might think! ;)

HITSONG.DAT Hitsong

Converted from a sample on a very old Amiga intro by ECA.

HZ_COPY.DAT Horizon Copy-Party

Made at the Horizon copy-party in Sweden. I had to wear head-
phones due to the amount of noise at that party.

KILLRBEE.DAT Killerbee

A long and unfortunately quite samey song. However, listen to
the funny beesound using waveform $51 at 03:20.

KINETIC.DAT Kinetic

Conversion of a ProTracker tune on the Amiga, composed by
                Nightlight of Kefrens.

LOUISIAN.DAT Louisiana

Two-in-one music in a compromise player. Watch out for the
                melodic change at 01:43.

MICHELLE.DAT Michelle

Another two-in-one tune, one of the better of that period.
After the samey first part, listen to the cute part at 03:02.
This part loops endlessly when reached and is one of my
                favourites.

NARROW.DAT Narrow+

Another introtune using Laxity's panflute instrument.

NEVER!.DAT Never!+

A very long and samey tune, still, it's one of my favourites.
After 5 minutes there's a funny bass solo.

NO_MORE.DAT No More...

One of the best sad songs I made. Samey, but with a nice
atmosphere. The sobbing flute-like instrument is just right.

SHORTBAT.DAT Batman (short version)

Shorter version of the popular Batman tune without the slow
part in the beginning. See "BATMAN.DAT" for more information.

SPACPORT.DAT Spaceport

Conversion from the titletune of an old "reLINE" game on the
Amiga - one of my friends asked me if I would convert it.

STOPFORM.DAT Stopform+

One of the better tunes, I like the constantly transposing
nature of it (like at 01:50).

THE_PUMA.DAT The Puma

A long and samey tune - this one became TOO samey. The bassline
was put down one octave lower than usual.

VOLVULUS.DAT Volvulus

Also one of my favourites. There are solo's in it where I
actually tried to put a little "feeling" into it with different
ADSR settings - like velocity on a real MIDI keyboard! Listen
to 01:16 to hear what I mean. ;)

WEIRDO.DAT Weirdo

A "neverending" tune where the tracks does not have the same
length. The two chord voices are therefore misaligned every time
                the tune restarts.
