Seven Days... The Background
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seven Days is a release I've been promising to put out for ages. It all began
back in ...ooh, February, when I entered The Trackering 5. For those of you
that don't know, The Trackering is a harmless enough little tracking
competition that was conceived in the aftermath of the 20 MeEnUhTz ChIpCoMpO,
which was originally started by Mach One's very own aMUSiC. (But you can
probably guess that from the way it's written. ;) )
I came second behind Sikamikanico. It was kinda fun, trying to put together a
tune in one week with a forced sampleset. It was certainly more entertaining
than the rash of other time-limited competitions that cropped up (Zinc's
"ImpromptuCompo", Aahz's "SpurOfTheMomentCompo" (which at least used good
samples), TraxCompo, ZYZZXcompo, AnotherCompo... ad nauseam), so I decided to
stick with it.
Several rounds came and went, and I fared reasonably well, having won TT7 (and
beaten Sika in the process - hehe, revenge :) ). Then, completely out of the
blue, I landed a whopping 8.000 for Wastelands II in TT11. It was the best
TT score to date... and remains so. (I still insist it's overrated, but The
Voters Have Spoken. :) )
It suddenly occured to me that I had some decent tunes from these entries. =)
I started tweaking them, rewriting them in parts, replacing the samples, and I
kept doing this for each new entry. After a good while it occurred to me that
these rewritten tunes deserved a full release.
The concept of Seven Days was born.
The plan was always a background process, so to speak, since I was working on
other things - my NAID journey and tune, my One Year On musicdisk which had
been in the pipeline too long already, my journey to Wired 96 and Painting
Rainbows (which became my debut release for Kosmic, who invited me to join)...
and MC4 but I don't like to talk about that. *cough* ;>
The collection started to build up and I realised I really had to put it out
before it got too unwieldy. Then inspiration struck me.
Release it on the anniversary of The Trackering 1!@#
And so it is. Seven Days, my -third- musicdisk, produced entirely due to a
competition started on #trax by Axl in December 1995.
Thanks, Axl. ;)
Seven Days... The Contents
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every tune in this pack is in .IT format. Live with it. :) (Yet another
argument against musicdisk interfaces. ;) ) All the information is in the song
message for each tune; all you have to do is load them inti Impulse Tracker
(2.08 or above), hit Shift-F9 while listening to each one and read the info,
so I'll just list the tunes here along with the round they competed in and
their scores.

Pursuit Of Freedom (TT5. Score: 5.833)

The Untamed Synth (TT8. Score: 6.385)

Wastelands II: Salt Winds (TT11. Score: 8.000)

Disembodied Mind                            (TT12. Score: 6.750)

Don't Make Me Go Home                       (TT13, originally "I Don't
                                              Wanna Go Home". Score: 6.824)

Escape From Sol III Part 2: Indigenous Life (TT14. Score: 6.364)

Beat Fever                                  (TT15. Score: 7.688)

Suckworthy!                                 (TT17. Score: 5.682)

Wastelands III: The Desolation Of The Earth (TT22. Score: 6.400)

Threatened                                  (TT23. Score: 5.958)

Living The Dream (TT25. Score: 6.222)

As you can see, I left out my entries from TTs 7, 9, 10, 20, 21 and 24
because... well, they all suck. :) And I had to draw the line -somewhere-. I
didn't want this one to be bigger than 1.4Mb. =)

Seven Days... The Sequel?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hmm. Lets take things one step at a time. ;) I -may- release a sequel if I
have enough good entries to put in. I may even decide to throw in some of the
ones I left out this time. After all, a guy can change his mind... :)
Seven Days - The Greets
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Axl - Werd to The Trackering. Hope it's still going in a year. ;)
      (I swear I meant that in a -nice- way. ;> )

Radix - I was gonna throw in my remix of your cover of Take On Me but it was
        originally -your- composition, so... :>

Siren - The only thing wrong with "Bright Club Lane" *guffaw* in TT11 was that
        title. :D You should have beaten me. =]

Yannis - ...hmm. Did you ever actually get around to FINISHING Magic Carpet
         Journey? =)

MickRip - Sawsynth Fornication WASN'T BLOODY CRAP, damnit. :D

WAVE - Pity Smiley was too big to get into TT14. You'd have whupped our sorry
       asses. :)

All the TT regulars - lets keep The Trackering alive for another year! =)
