            BMP COMPO 2,

                 http://www.d-zign.com/bmpcompo2

___________ introduction

If we were to calculate the time that we spent just
listening to the tracks that were submitted to last
years bmp compo, we could probably be considered
pretty insane to still feel like doin' it all over
again for a second time. Not to mention, the time that
we've spent setting the whole thing up and putting it
            to work.. hmm well..

at blacktron music productions, we're pretty insane.

so YES, it's true, a second bmp compo is here!

___________ a new system

A new system? Yeah. Compared to the first bmp
compo last year, this second compo has a complete
different setup. We're gonna divide the entries
into 6 DIFFERENT CATEGORIES! Read and find out.

            about the new system

To give ALL styles an equal chance we decided to
divide the compo into 6 main style-categories. Each
category will have seperate judges which we will all
select ourselves, so each category will be judged by
musicians who know what they're talking about. So
please don't try to apply to be judge.

It was hard though to divide the compo into different
style-categories, but we think we managed to
seperate the main styles from another.

            The 6 categories are:

            1.acid / techno / progressive / hardhouse /
              techno-trance / underground
            2.club / mellow / trance / club-trance /
              commercial
            3.goa trance / psychedelic trance
            4.drum&bass / jungle / chemical / triphop /
              breakbeat
            5.ambient / chillout / experimental
            6.hardcore / gabber / terror / rave / hardtrance /
              oldskool
           (7.undefined)

If you don't agree with our definitions of the 6
categories, please let us know. Good suggestions
            and critism are always welcome.

If you think your tune does not fit into either one of
the categories, or if you can't decide what category
you have to choose, choose #7, UNDEFINED, so we can
decide for ourselves how to handle the track.

___________ prizes? sponsors?

This time no stupid promises we can not fulfil. We've
looked around in our own environment and see what
            we came up with.

We thought that since we're organizing a music
contest, we should have some decent prizes to offer
for the compo winners. But, considering last years
bmp compo, we don't want to make any promises that
we can not fulfil (remember last years music-label
involved, that suddenly changed into a midi only
            label?!).

Well, for this second compo, we've been talking to
several labels again, to see if they we're willing to
'sponsor' this compo. But, all we got to hear so far
was: 'Nah, nice try mate, but we don't think we can
            help you, so..'

Anyway, the winners of the compo will get
something this time, that's for sure. We are
considering things like an audio cd containing
winning tunes, produced by ourselves and
distributed by ourselves. Besides that, we're still
contacting several labels, but as said before: we are
not gonna make any promises we can not fulfil!

During the compo we will post the available 'prizes' to
the compo-homepage. But, if you're looking for the big
money, you are at a wrong place ..
However, if you have contacts with music labels or
other related companies that may be interested in
supporting this event, please let us know!

It should be clear now that we do this compo for fun,
and that it's supposed to stay a fun compo at all
            times.

___________ important rules & notes

Very important. The main rules. Ofcourse, all you
have to do is compose one or two tunes and submit
it to the compo. Here are all rules all you need
to know to enter the bmp-compo #2.

            legal rules

To ensure that nobody will get him/her self into
trouble with the law by joining, or even winning this
compo, here's some information regarding this legal
stuff. In short; NO REMIXES! NO RIP-OFFS!
            ORIGINAL WORK ONLY!

All entries must be 100% original (no remixes, no edits).
If you use any parts of already existing songs, your entry
will not be allowed to participate in our compo. If we do not
detect the part you copied, YOU are responsible for all
possible consequences by the author(s) of the original song.
Bmp and our possible sponsors hold NO responsibility.

            GENERAL:
            - You may participate in two different categories if
            you like.

            - You are not allowed to submit the same tune into different
categories. (so if you're participating in two different
categories, you have to submit two different tunes).

            - All categories will have a winner. So there won't be
ONE definite winner of all categories taken together.
            (there will be 6 winners)

            - 'Co-ops' (teamwork tracks) will be allowed.
However, if you enter a coop in a category, you may
not enter with an OWN tune in the same category
            anymore.

            - NO remixing allowed. Even remixing your own
            track(s) is not allowed.

            - You may however use vocals and instruments of
others ofcourse, as long as your tune remains 100%
original and doesn't sound like the tune you ripped
            those instruments/vocals from.

            MUSICAL:
            - There are NO size nor time limits.

            - The following formats will be allowed: XM, IT,
MOD, S3M. If you compoze in another format you
have to let us know in advance. If the file is not
playable with either fasttracker 2, impulse tracker 2.14
cubic or winamp, you will have to include a decent
            player yourself.

            - MP3 exception: We also allow MP3 formatted files
in this compo. However, if you join in with an MP3,
you have to send us the tracked copy (XM, IT, S3M)
            as well.
Why? Well, since BMP COMPO #2 is a tracking
compo, all songs have to be tracked. The MP3
exception is only meant for people who want to join
the compo, but don't want others to rip their samples
or start fooling around with their patterns. So no midi
songs saved as MP3 ! (if you have submitted a mp3 file,
write a mail to bmpcompo2@advance.xs4all.nl and we will
contact you for the original track)

            ZIPPING:
Remember: All entries have to be zipped (.ZIP). No
ARJ, RAR or other compressors. If you're unfamiliar
with ZIPPED ARCHIVES, check out the zip help page
            for troubleshooting tips.
            (zip help: http://www.d-zign.com/bmpcompo2/zip.htm)

            SAMPLEPACK:
Just like last year, there are samplepacks available
for this compo. These are downloadable from the compo
            ftp site at ftp://skynet.stack.nl/pub/demos/bmpcompo2

This sample pack is only for those who need some additional
samples for their tune(s). So, you don't have to use them,
only if you want. More information on the different sample-
packs can be found on the compo-homepage.
Do not hesitate to send hybrid a mail if you have comments or
suggestions concerning the samples (mailto: robinf@worldnet.fr)
